Platform & Pricing

Who is Motif for?
Motif is built for fiction writers—whether you’re just beginning to plan your novel, research ideas, or are finishing up and revising a draft. Nonfiction writers have also found our platform useful for organizing their research, notes, and documents.
Why is Motif in Beta?
Motif is a new product launched in November 2023, and we're constantly building, testing, and adding features. We are considering our product to be in “beta” because users may encounter bigger bugs or missing features than they would expect from an established platform. If you ever experience an issue, please contact us on Discord or via email.
Will you have a paid plan?
Our Pro plan will launch in June 2024. It will be for serious writers who want advanced capabilities to help them outline, draft, worldbuild, research, and revise their work. If you upgrade to our Pro plan after it launches, there will be a subscription fee for our advanced features. By pricing that plan with a subscription model, it means we can continually improve our product, keep your work safe in the cloud, and offer exciting new features.
What does Motif cost?
Motif offers a limited Free plan, which means you don't have to pay a monthly subscription fee for our basic writing platform. 

Features

Can I use Motif on mobile?
While Motif can technically be used on mobile devices, it has not yet been optimized for that experience. Some features, such as the document toolbar and right sidebar with synopsis, notes, story elements, and word count, are hidden on mobile. For the best experience, we recommend using Motif on desktop or tablet until we release the mobile-optimized version.
Why can't I have more than 3 projects?
Motif currently offers a limited Free plan. Once we launch a Pro plan, you can upgrade to that plan for unlimited projects and other advanced capabilities to help you outline, draft, worldbuild, research, and revise your work. 
Can I use Motif offline?
Unfortunately, not yet. We’re working on it, but until we announce an offline mode, Motif must be used while connected to the internet. If you lose internet connection during a session, please wait to use the app until you reconnect. You will receive an in-app notification warning you that you’re offline. If you do not receive that notification, but know that you’re offline, do not use the app or you may lose work.

How can I join the Motif community?
Motif has a Discord community where writers can gather to talk about their work, or ping us about feature ideas or issues with the app. Join here.
How do I report a bug?
If you experience an issue with Motif, you can report a bug in one of several ways:

1) Join our community on Discord via this link. Post about your issue in the #report-a-bug channel.
2) While logged into the app, select the question mark icon for the “Help & Feedback” dropdown. Select the “Report a Bug” option and fill out the form with the issue you’re facing.
3) Email us with details about your issue at help@meetmotif.com.
How can I suggest a feature?
Motif is a new product, and we're constantly building, testing, and adding features. If you'd like to request a feature, connect with us on Discord or send us an email: help@meetmotif.com.

Privacy

Do you use my writing to train AI?
No. Motif currently does not offer any AI features and we do not train AI models with user’s writing. Your written work and account information is kept private per our Privacy Policy

While we may implement AI features at a future point, they would be fully-optional and require you to opt-in to use them. Your private data and written work would not be used to train or fine-tune the AI model. Your interactions would be treated as confidential and the data would not be repurposed for model training or shared with other entities.
Do I own the rights to my work in Motif?
Yes! You retain the copyright to anything you write on Motif. 
Is my writing private and secure?
Of course. We keep all writing private and secure in AWS cloud storage. That being said, Motif is still in beta and occasionally encounters a few bugs. If you ever experience an incident of lost work, please contact us immediately so we can recover it: help@meetmotif.com.
How do I delete my account?
Log into the app, navigate to account settings, and select “Delete” under your account.
